New Year’s Resolutions

Well, it’s that time of year again.

Do you ever make New Year’s Resolutions.?  It is very difficult not to make some half-hearted plans that never come to much because it is that time of year and everyone else is doing it.

My resolution is to write a bit more on this blog.  It was last year as well!  What’s yours?  Stronger, faster longer?

The New Year is just an arbitrary point in time anyway, so is it that important you do it because everyone else is doing it now?

I don’t really think now is a good time to make any new resolutions, or to set some goals, which is what you are really doing.  New Year’s Resolutions are a casual thing that no-one expects to keep for very long and are never treated seriously.

So, if you want something, don’t wait for the next New Year to come around, do it straight away (except for today).  Set yourself a goal and keep it with you at all times.  Just writing it down once seems to make it more likely to happen.  If you write it out more often, keep a copy with you at all times, read it out loud, think about it all the time, it is even more likely to happen.

There is lots of stuff available about setting and achieving your goals. here is one I like.

What it all boils down to, and what I have succeeded with in the past, is to start to live your goal now.  You need to connect with it emotionally.  You have to get excited about it when you think about it.  Just bringing it into your mind starts your heart racing.

You can make plans to hit targets on the way and say it ten times each morning; these are all things that help to keep it in your mind, but unless you are emotionally in contact with it, it is less likely to happen to you.
